The Great Swirl Ring Masterpiece
Posted by Joanna Rubini on
This engagement ring project was brought to us by a couple who had all of their own family diamonds. The woman wanted a very bold, very wide, magical ring. She brought us samples of her style and a drawing of what she wanted, which was an 18mm across on top white gold ring with yellow gold leaves, swirls, bezels and 1 rim. Welcome to August 2020. We are in the midst of a planet wide awakening. Which means that we all don't have to follow the established norm any longer, including choices for wedding jewelry: how to wear it, where to wear it. Diamonds are carbon: very organized and stable carbon, that is. A very scientific description can be found here but simplified vastly, natural diamonds were created when carbon dioxide got trapped far below the earth's surface millions of years ago, was subjected to massive pressure from all the earth above it, was then forced at a high speed back up to the surface via volatile volcanic action which prevented the natural conversion of carbon dioxide into graphite and instead produced a very stable strong carbon compound aka diamond, or so the theory goes. With synthetic diamonds AKA lab grown diamonds, that process...
